Jacob deGrom pitched six shutout innings and Pete Alonso homered and had a season-high four RBIs in his return as the New York Mets notched a 6-2 victory over the Arizona Diamondbacks on Monday night in Phoenix.

The right-handed deGrom (4-2) struck out eight and allowed two hits without issuing a walk. He lowered his ERA to 0.71 and has struck out 82 and given up just 22 hits in 51 innings over eight starts.

Alonso had been sidelined since May 18 due to an injured right hand but wasn't the least bit hindered when he slammed a two-run blast 442 feet into the stands in left in the seventh to make it 5-0. Billy McKinney also went deep for the Mets.

New York won its fifth straight game with deGrom sailing along and retiring the first 13 batters he faced. Carson Kelly lined a single to center for Arizona's first hit and Josh Reddick singled later in the inning for the only other safety against deGrom.

Eduardo Escobar hit his 13th homer and Reddick had three hits for the Diamondbacks, who have lost 23 of their past 27 games. Arizona is 0-4 against the Mets this season.

Diamondbacks right-hander Merrill Kelly (2-6) gave up five runs and nine hits over 6 2/3 innings. He struck out six and walked two.

Jose Peraza and Mason Williams led off the Mets' third inning with singles and Francisco Lindor delivered a two-out single to right to load the bases. Alonso followed and ripped a single to left to score Peraza and Williams.

One inning later, Kelly was on the verge of retiring the side in order when Peraza hit a lazy fly to left center. Arizona left fielder David Peralta called for the ball and center fielder Ketel Marte appeared to call him off and the ball dropped between both for a double.

Williams was walked intentionally and the left-handed-hitting deGrom drilled a run-scoring single to right to make it 3-0.

Villar reached on an infield hit in the seventh before Alonso came up with two outs and smashed his seventh homer of the season to end Kelly's outing.

Escobar homered in the bottom of the seventh off Trevor May to get Arizona on the board. Reddick had a run-scoring single later in the inning.

McKinney hit his fifth homer to start the eighth off left-hander Ryan Buchter.
