Alleyne, Nolley and Radford came off the bench to combine for 14 points on 6-of-11 shooting from the field in the first half. Alleyne had eight points behind two 3-pointers.

Boston College rallied to tie the game at 37 with 15:04 left in regulation but the Eagles then went on a stretch of only one point in 5:24. Virginia Tech struggled from the floor also and led 44-40 with 8:43 remaining when Hamilton broke Boston College's field-goal drought with a layup.
