Miami at N.Y. Jets
When: 1:00 PM ET, Sunday, December 8, 2019
Where: MetLife Stadium, East Rutherford, New Jersey

The New York Jets have been extremely generous to previously winless teams this season, notably handing the Miami Dolphins their first victory last month and putting Cincinnati in the win column last weekend. The Jets aim to snap a four-game skid in the series on Sunday when they host the Dolphins in East Rutherford, N.J.

"You don't want to be the team that gives (the opposition) their first win of the season. It (stinks)," New York defensive end Harry Anderson said of his club that became the first in NFL history to lose to two teams that were 0-7 or worse in the same season. The Jets rebounded from their 26-18 setback to Miami on Nov. 3 by scoring 34 points in three straight games before dropping a 22-6 decision to the Bengals, marking the fourth time they have been held to six or fewer this season. Miami, in turn, erupted for season-high totals in points and yards (408) in a 37-31 victory over Philadelphia on Sunday. "This team knows how to deal with adversity. We're just going to keep swinging," Dolphins coach Brian Flores said after his team punctuated its third win in five outings with holder Matt Haack tossing a touchdown pass to kicker Jason Sanders.

ABOUT THE DOLPHINS (3-9): Journeyman quarterback Ryan Fitzpatrick threw for a season-high 365 yards and three scores last week to match the touchdown total he had in the previous encounter with New York, with which he played in 2015-16. Former first-round wideout DeVante Parker continued his torrid stretch with seven catches for career-high totals in yards (159) and touchdowns (two) against the Eagles. Tight end Mike Gesicki enjoyed his best outing of his sophomore season with six catches for 95 yards against the Jets. Patrick Laird, who has assumed the starting role in the backfield in favor of injured Kalen Ballage, had 10 carries for five yards last week ahead of facing New York's top-ranked rushing defense (75.3 yards per game).

ABOUT THE JETS (4-8): Safety Jamal Adams is expected to miss the first game of his career with an ankle injury while fellow former Pro Bowler C.J. Mosley became the 15th Jet to land on injured reserve with an ailing groin. "Really, it's frustrating sometimes to kind of go through when guys start going down ... but it also is a great way to find out when guys can do it and it's not too big for them." Sam Darnold, who overcame a bout of mononucleosis earlier in the season, turned a season-high 48 passes against the Bengals into just a 58 percent completion rate and 71.4 passer rating -- totals that were his second-lowest of 2019. Slot receiver Jamison Crowder highlighted an eight-catch performance by reeling in a touchdown pass in the previous meeting with Miami, igniting a stretch of finding the end zone in three of his last five games.

EXTRA POINTS

1. Sanders was named the AFC Special Teams Player of the Week for the second time this season on Wednesday.

2. New York WR Robby Anderson had a season-high seven catches for 101 yards on Sunday after recording six catches for 103 yards in his previous three games combined.

3. The Dolphins' minus-14 turnover differential is tied with the New York Giants for the worst in the NFL.
